ANNIKA LARSSON
The Swedish artist Annika Larsson (born 1972,
lives and works in New York) trains her attention on casual but forceful male
gestures. The installational video works she has created over the past four
years, which are seen together at a museum for the first time here, decode and
disclose gender- specific and hierarchically determined behavioural patterns.
Annika LarssonŐs cast consists exclusively of well-dressed men whose relational
networks differentiate themselves in a suggestively erotic,
unending arc, only to relativise themselves
again. Narrative in approach and structured by compelling musical rhythms, the
videos insistently draw out individual moments: narrative building blocks are
isolated and stereotypes long familiar to us from Hollywood films are explored
in slow motion
